Switching from Orchid
If you're on Orchid eBound (bound book and 4473 only) and want POS and a website too, or you're leaving Orchid POS:
- Plan the move and download first. Plan the move with your ATF Area Office. ATF Rul. 2022-01 requires written notice 60 days before you implement electronic 4473 storage, and 2016-1 requires a full download of your bound book before changing software. Download or print your full A&D record from Orchid before you cancel (ATF Rul. 2016-1 condition 5(c); ATF Ruling 2016-1). Keep your old system's electronic 4473 originals, or a verified export of them, intact and unaltered (ATF Rul. 2022-01 condition 3).
- Export your bound book as a CSV or Excel file, if your plan offers one, and upload it. There's no dedicated Orchid importer; the file goes through the generic column mapping. A 5-row preview shows the raw data, you map the columns once, and saved mapping profiles keep that map for next time.
- Validate, stage, review, commit. Duplicate serials are flagged at staging and blocked at commit, you can skip rows, and nothing touches your bound book until you commit.
- Reconcile. The reconciliation report with attestation checks the import file against what's in the system, not against your physical inventory.

Who should choose which
- Log fewer than 100 guns a year and only need a book? Orchid eBound Starter or FFLSafe is free. Use one.
- Choose Orchid if you want a large vendor with cloud POS, eCommerce, distributor feeds and in-house compliance services, and a monthly subscription suits you.
- Choose FFL Command Center if you want the bound book, 4473, POS, inventory and a dealer website on your own Windows PC for one payment, working with or without internet. Windows 10 and 11 only for now. Mac version coming.
